Night Descends on Svalbard
Two research scientists and an artist in residence find themselves at the end of their stay at the Svalbard Seed Bank in Norway as the winter of 24 hour darkness approaches. While they prepare for their departure, they’re alerted of a mysterious illness that has overtaken society and find they are stranded in their isolation. As they face their demons, the darkness and their loneliness, a strange and gentle madness descends on the trio. Commissioned for the 2021 Exponential Festival, and filmed on January 6th 2021, Night Descends on Svalbard is presented in four languages, Cypriot, Spanish, German and Gibberish, and is a meditation on collective solitude, our connection to the moon, and the end of the world. Performed by Camilo Quiroz-Vazquez (Spanish), Ellpetha Tsivicos (Cypriot), Michelle Uranowitz (Gibberish), and Konstantin Georgiou (German), Directed by Ellpetha Tsivicos, Written and Edited by Camilo Quiroz-Vazquez. Produced by One Whale's Tale.
